By the way guys, this router really SUCKS. I struggled with it for almost a month, and could not et it to work. It would not renew IP as the time of dhcp lease time ended. So I had to reset it every time. And even that is drag. It would not respond to just a Reboot. The net cable would have to be unplugged first, followed by a reboot, and then reconnecting the network cable. Often, I would have to reset by cable modedm as well.
The wired 7004BR (and not the ABR) is FAR better. Have not had problems with it for 6 months now. SMC was great before they went to the "A" variety of their products, with which they updated the web-based interface (which is the root of this problem).
Granted, this may have been a bad unit; a collective 2 hours with tech support could not solve it though. So, you may take this witha grain of salt.

la400, did you return it for another unit or ask SMC to cross ship you a new one? I had the wired one and now have the wireless one and both were great to use. A call to tech support was only used when I couldn't understand how come something didn't work was the only thing I needed. You are right about the new interface, it sucks, I like my non 'A' wired one better.

This is an excellent router! The picture on the CompUSA site is the WBR, the AWBR looks different.
I have had both. The WBR has better throughput, but it also cost $300 back when it was current. The AWBR is just as easy to use. Any problems I've ever had were fixed with newer firmware versions.

Units with older firmware will require a firmware update if you're running WinXP on a machine with wireless NIC.

this is a very nice router. it sets up quite easily, and there have been a number of threads on this item. recently compusa offered a combo of this routher along with the smc wireless card for 200. the printserver only works with windows and i think linux as well. it simply adds a new port on your windows box called prtmate which directs to the router parallel port. i also would recommend the orinoco(lucent chipset) cards to get max range.

the 802.11b stuff is taking a while to go on fire sale with 802.11a out, but i was hoping these things would go down to 100 or below by now.

this is still not unreasonable as i got my for 150 about a year ago on a deal and it works with no problems in setup or function.

Yes, the printer server is very easy to set up. Just install the CD on each machine. Then install the printer drivers. Point the printer driver to port "Prtmate" (default is LPT1). That's it!
The printer port is not bi-directional though, so you won't get any ink level graphs or anything like that.
