SMC Wireless Signal Strength Issue

My equipment:

Wireless Router
SMC Wireless Adapter

The problem:

Weak signal. The router is "b" and the card is b/g. The router is about 25' away from the PC with the card. Since the signal bounces in and out, I decided to order this.

Router is set to 128 bit WEP. The transmission rate is 11mbps and the basic rate is at 2mbps.

Any ideas?

PCI Wifi cards are worthless - the metal case blocks the antenna and acts as a radio shield. I would return it and get a USB WiFi Nic.

I always use USB WiFi nics on client's desktops and place them as high as possible on the wall (top of a book case or velcro it to the wall) to maximize signal reception (stronger signal = higher bandwidth).

Like I said, I also purchased this. This should help me out. The antenna is going to be on the opposite side at a much higher location.
