Almost bit on this one, but then read the user reviews at Amazon and there's a high percentage of one-star reviews. I have a really old SMC 7004 "wired" router and it's been great, but I'm not sure if this newer product will give the same experience based on those reviews.

I have both the 7004 and the 2804W both work well indepently but I can't connect both of them at the same time to use the wireless of one and the print server of the other. Physically connecting them is ok but when you configure one router it sets the configuration for both. Any help out there for this connection?

Overall they have performed well.

I have the router and it works great with my 802.11b D-Link cards. I got it because people reported greater range than other routers. I am getting much better range then Netgear or D-Link 802.11b routers. But I also heard that the SMC PC and PCI 802.11g cards are to be avoided.

I also had a problem where Microsoft Update would hang with other routers and no problems with the SMC.

I have used this router and card for both cable and DSL.

Very easy setup with included CD.

It has worked flawlessly for me.

Finding how to setup security features takes some digging.

I get an Excellent or Very Good signal strength throughout
my smallish 2-story house.

I have my 7004 hooked up to a DLink 624 and I am able to use the print feature of the 7004. I had to do several things to make it work : (1) hook up lan port of 624 to lan port of 7004 (2) turn off DHCP on the 7004 (3) set the base address of the 7004 to a different on than the 624, and not in the range of addresses provided automatically by the 624 - I used 192.168.0.2. If all this works for you, log into your 7004 to verify access, and then point PRTmate to the routers new IP. You are in effect making the 7004 only a switch, as your 2804W will handle the router functions for your network now.

I have this as my router. Not only is it great for that price, but it comes with Stateful PAcket Inspection (SPI) and VPN passthrough (not vpn). The problem I had though when I got it was that signal kept on dropping, and it would freeze. I had upgraded to firmware 1.10. Much worse. So, I dealt with the problem for awhile, until the upgrade to 1.11a. I didn't have bellsouth, so I didn't need that fix, but the release notes specified other changes. From that upgrade on, it has been working flawlessly. No hangs, running for about 4 months now. No signal drops, which pissed me off early on. It's a solid router, outside of it's initial problems. I chose it because it had the best range from my research, outside of the new chipsets out there, specifically the Dell router. That's the best, but I ain't paying over $50 for a router.

What am I missing here?

The item description says $29.99 after a $40 rebate but the price reads as $79.99. Same in the shopping cart during checkout.

Shipping cost $7.xx. The local Fry's does not honor the same prices that is what they told me.
