Been having some problems hosting,or joining an AOE2 game behind this Router/Firewall.

have checked MS's site and did what they had listed but still no go.
just trying to hook up with a buddy of mine thats on 56K.but i can't see his game, nor can he see mine.

If anyone can give me a step by step on how to get this game configured with this Router i'd appreciate it.
all other games/Programs that i have work fine.just this one game is giving me problems.
have tried many different Ports with no go.

Specs:

SMC Barricade Cable/DSL Router
RR Cable
Win98SE
Directx 8.1
AOE2/Conquerors
Using TCP/IP Connection

I even setup my system on DMZ mode and still no go.

Any help is appreciated.

Only thing i changed in the DMZ was:

"IP Address of DMZ Host - i put in the IP of the machine i'm trying to host/join game with, and enabled it - 192.168.123.xxx"

everything else in there i left default/blank.

-Remote Administrator Host - 0.0.0.0
-Administrator Time-out - 0
-Discard PING from WAN side - Unchecked
-Non-standard FTP port - 0
-MAC Address for Wake-on-LAN - Blank

Only settings in there for DMZ.

I have no idea how to do it either because I'm trying to get Starcraft to work on my router as well. I think you're supposed to give the IP of your computer...not the router IP. You can find that by just going into your router configuration page and clicking on status. Hope this helps. If not, then good luck.

That may be your problem ojai00.

you need to enable one of your LAN IP's.not your External IP from ISP.

ie: Say your External IP is 24.95.64.21:
Your Router IP is 192.168.123.245
Your system your running the game on is 192.168.123.145

That would mean you would have to enable IP 192.168.123.145 with the Starcraft Port.
if you have the same Router as me, (SMC Barricade) go into Virtual Server settings, under Service Port, put in your Port number for the game you are playing (Starcraft),then under server IP,put in the IP of your LAN PC that will be playing the game.

All of my other games/Programs work fine this way.just AOE2 is giving me problems.

Thanks for replying.
Good Luck with your game as well.

I have most of that stuff enabled. I have Private IP 192.168.123.456. I don't know what to put in the private and the public port. But that's okay. It's not that important for me to host games...as long as I can play them, I'm okay.

As for you, if you click on Help at the top of the screen on your Special Application settings, there are some ports listed for MSN Gaming Zone, you might want to try those out...good luck. 🙂

I think i figured out my problem.

Appears the game wouldn't work under DX8 Settings.
checked DXDiag and AOE2 kept showing up as DX7 Capable.
so set up the Router for DX7 for AOE2 and the game shows up now when hosting.

ojai00,did you say you have the SMC Barricade Router?

Congratulations on fixing your problem. I also have the same router,...but I'm too dumb to configure anything with it. 😛 Maybe one day when I have time, I'll sit down and play with it. Thanks for your help though

ojai00,try this and see what happens with your game.
should be pretty simple if you know the right Port number to open..hehe..unlike i did. 🙂

Go into your Router Config:

Virtual Server - under "Service Port" add this Port number in an empty line 6112 (ie: ID 4) - then under Server IP,add your private IP (Should just have to add the last 3 digits of IP since the rest is listed - in your case last 3 would be 456).it should also be on same ID number as you listed the port on the left. (ID 4)

then hit save at bottom, then hit reboot.
And refresh on your status screen.

if the Port number is coorect you shouldn't have no problems. 🙂

if ya need any more help just PM me or post here and i'll help ya if i can.
