Well, this makes my third DVD Player post within the past week. I'm surprised no one saw this one earlier when the Toshiba player was hot.
The player "apparently" has a built-in Dolby Digital Decoder. I have seen this model at a local Chinese Electronics store (they sell it for $199), and it did indeed have it. The SMC website does not indicate this model has it though, so it gets confusing! Even Mass Merchandise's description implies that it has it, but then goes on to say "Optical Connection" which implies that it doesn't. Talk about speaking out of both sides of your mouth!
It uses a Hitachi DVD Drive, so it most likely has fast menu and track access.
This player does use the C-Cube chip, so if you've seen a Konka or Samsung player and was impressed with the picture quality, by all means, click here: SMC DVD Player
I'd say that this player is a LOT better than Oritron or KLH, but not as good as Apex (in terms of cheap DVD Players).
I don't know how satisifed people are with massmerchandise.com, but I ordered a digital camera from them two months ago and didn't have any problems with their service or billing.
At this price, they're practically giving it away.
