SMC Cable Modem frequent drops

I recently moved and I am having a really hard time getting my cable modem to stay connected to my ISP in Central CA (Charter Pipeline). I had the thing working flawlessly for a year and a half, but now that I moved, it drops my connection about every hour, and sometimes sooner. There are 3 people connected to the router, and I doubt that it is an OS or software thing. I didn't change any of the settings, and it drops. I decided to go to the newest frimware, 1.93p. That allowed for a lot more settings, but none of them are helping. Does anyone have an idea on what I need to do? Please? This is pissing my roommates off cause they think I am responsible...haha. 🙂

One of the ports on the router routinely looses connection because the cable is bad that my rommate is using, but I would think because the light goes out that it is just his computer that looses connection. We are replacing the cable soon...any other ideas?

1. Take the router out and hook the cable modem directly into one PC and input the correct settings.
2. If still no go, reboot cable modem by unplugging it.
3. Remove all components in your network in control panel.
4. Remove TCP/IP stack and reinstall with settings.
5. Reformat HD and reinstall Windows.
6. Replace NIC.
7. Replace cable.

If none of these work, give your ISP a call. It is alot easier to do things on your own. That's why the ISP call would be my last resort. 😀
