Is it possible to use the above as a hub instead of the router (with all the firewall feature)?

uh, what? I assume it as a 4 port hub/switch on it so, yes you can use it as a plain hub/switch. But the question about the firewall makes no sense. If you don't have a modem going into the WAN port what do you need the firewall for? Maybe you could ask that question again with more info as to what you are trying to do.

Iankia, what do you mean? What can you do with a hub that you can't with this? Heh... :Q

I have this router...it has a firewall, does internet sharing, and you can also share files and so forth with it- so what can a hub do that this doesn't?:confused::confused:

You can turn off the DHCP server and make it look like a hub.... Not sure why you would want to do this....

Thanks for all the replies so far .. really appreaciate it. I was in a rush just now and that's why I couldn't be more detailed. :)

But now I am going to try to be as detailed as possible. :)

It's a SMC 7004BR 4-port router. I am currently a student at a university, but since I don't live in the dorm no more, I obtain my internet connection through a 'cable modem.' All non-dorm cable modems are on one T1 line. There is a port in each room, but I have a room-mate. Well, the room is supposed to be a single, but I am trying to minimize summer housing cost by sharing it with another person. First question: Which category do I fall in? Cable modem or DSL? I have static IP assigned by the school's DNS server. However, I can also hardcode myself with an unused IP. I chose to do the latter to avoid billing. :)

After installing the Barricade, I figure I can't hard code myself anymore, something which I don't desire. I thought if the barricade can act as a normal hub, I should have no problem, right?? Any thoughts??

Oh...so you're just trying to steal your internet access...okay...yeah, maybe you should go to another forum then, because we don't exactly condone that kind of behavior nor is it worthy of help.
