Here's a stupid question.....after powering down my computers, is it okay to leave it on or would it be better to turn it off?

Thanks!

Stay on as this will still hold your IP address. The only down side to this router is that you have to 'reboot' the router when you make changes, thus you might get a new IP ( I have had this problem several times).

My next question to you is, why do you shutdown your systems. They don't absorb much power and you could be using your unused CPU cycles for one of Team AnandTech's projects. (Shameless Plug). =)

I started RC5 a few weeks back and I used my email address and I ran it a few days and did a flush. I still can't find my email address in the stats, I don't understand it. Maybe you could help. I even tried another email and still no go. The 2 addresses I used were chadwik@hotmail.com
and wiks166@home.com

Thanks guys! "On" it is.

Tho', I'll have to think about that distributed computing stuff. I'm kinda paranoid as far as putting stuff on my 'puters.

Well, leaving the PC on could be a problem for those of us whose PC is in their bedroom. My PC sounds like a jet taking off because of all the fans in it. Makes it a little hard to get to sleep. :)

Talk about messed up priorities... leave the PC on & sleep in the living room! ;)

Hey Wik,

I found you. You were doing OGR instead of RC5. A little confusing, I know. E-mail me and I'll help you set up your client, or just stop by the Distributed Network Forum here and ask and anyone will help.

Here's your stats by the way.

Thanks Jator I have it all figured out now I think.

Anyways about leving it on. Huesmann, we are telling him to leave the router on. That way the router and the modem stay linked and it will not have to wait to get its IP. Turning off the computers is fine. I used to leave my Netgear RT311 on all the time.

Now I use an old pentium 166 box running Freesco on a floppy to route the net. I have more port mapping abilities with it and print server options.
