I am a @home cable modem user, and own the SMC Barricade router, and I am having problems playing Half Life COunter stike, like I can't play becuase CounterStrike will not connect to its Web based servers. I have put this probelm on the shelf for months now, that is where the router has been (disconnected), and hoped that someone might be able to give me a few hints as to how to set up the Barricade to allow CounterStrike to connect to its Web servers... any one???

I installed a Linksys Fast Ethernet router today and I learned a lot of things.

Say you have 3 PCs, 2 clients and 1 server where your CS is.

Example:

Server: 192.168.0.3

Client #1: 192.168.0.4

Client #2: 192.168.0.5

Dynamic DNS: cs.example.net

In the router, you set the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) to 192.168.0.3 to allow players to access your server. Restart the computer. Since, you are playing CS from one of your client pc....you must add the server address like this: 192.168.0.3:27015 when you start the game .....NOT cs.example.net.

Only outside players can use cs.example.net:27015

Remember your router's LAN IP address. If it is 192.168.0.3...then, the server will be 192.168.0.4 and the client will be 192.168.0.5....etc

**Warning**...If your ISP use Dynamic IP (DCHP) and when you shut down the server/reboot...you could have a different IP address instead of 192.168.0.3 for the server which means you have to configure the DMZ again.

Hope this help. Email me if you have any questions.
