SMC Barricade---2,3 & 4 leds don't light up (solved)!

Only have 2 puters connected thru the router. When I connect the 2nd cable to the router, the port light doesn't light up.(rear card light either) I know the cable is good and so is the 2nd card. I can see both puters with direct connect between the 2. When I try the 1st cable with any port, each light up. Any suggestions guys?...thanks.

edit: the M1 light indicating the router is working is flashing like it should.
 
Sounds to me like you have a crossover cable there. If you connect both PCs directly with that cable and no hub, it must be a crossover. The router needs straight throughs to each PC. Unless I am mistaking.

Agree. Try all combinations -- cable with each port/puter. If the 2 computers talk directly, it sounds like a crossover cable. If the two lights don't light, they're not seeing each other.
 
Daz & Cipher Thanks!!.......thats what it was, the crossover cable will not work thru a router. Now, to get my modem hooked up. Again, thanks.
