SMC 7004VBR router $24.99 AR

Anybody know if this is a good router? What other features do more expensive routers have that this one doesn't? Seems like a pretty good deal...

I have this router and I'd recommend it, especially for that price. It has a SPI (stateful packet inspection) firewall and a nice web interface with lots of configurability. It's very full-featured for a low-end router. For example, you can turn off the firewall completely, something you cannot do in many competitor's routers. There is a beta firmware that you can get from the SMC forum at broadbandreports.com that adds UPnP support. And you get all that in a very compact unit so it won't take up a lot of space.

Honestly I can't say too much about how well it works because I only used it for a few days, but it was easy to set up and worked fine in that time. I just disconnected it because I only have one computer right now, but I'm in the process of building another and then I'll start using it again.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it takes a long time to restart after applying any changes, somewhere between 30-60 sec (can't remember exactly).

You might be able to save a few more dollars from Amazon

Free shipping and no tax for folks in CA. Also be sure to use $5 coupon

I got this about a month ago. It works fine. Nothing has happened to my computer... 🙂

It only takes me about 2-5secs for any changes. Maybe it's because of your firmware?

you wont find a coupon here. go look t*chbargains or F*twallet. Where actually you should start there first so you dont have to read all the stolen deals here from there. And get the code and link at the same time.

Ditto

except for the part about only 1 computer.

Edit/ ...and the changes to firewall happen instantly for me but rebotting the thing does take awhile.
