Howdy,

I have the SMC 7004BR router. I'm trying to use the BitTorret software provided via Blizzard that they are using to release their movies files and such for WoW. Their faw has this line in it:
I'm getting a slow download speed, what can I do to improve it?
One of the main causes of slow download speeds is an incorrect system configuration. If you are using a firewall or router, please be sure to open or forward ports 6881-6999. Also, try changing your connection speed to something slower (T1 to cable/dsl fast, etc). Since connection speed determines both your upload and download bandwidth, it is possible that your upload rate is choking your download rate.

I'm not sure how to make sure ports are open in the config section. haven't made any changes to anything with the router so it has all its default settings but I get really slow download rates so thought I'd check this out.

ANyone have this router and can tell me which screen to go to and what to enter to do this?

THanks.

I might be able to help you if you could post a screen shot. It should be under somthing like security or firewall.

Here's a pick of the only screen I coudl fidn that looks like it might be right...

But the manual says that if it's set to BLock and nothing is in the box that it then means block nothing or allow everything...

So it might already be letting those open and there's nothign I can do.

The virtual server thing worked. Upped the d/l from like 30k to 200k

Just put the port arnge in one box, my IP in the other and away we go.

BTW "Access Control" has to do with port filtering on your local LAN. For example, if you were using this router to front a small office and wanted to deny your users access to BitTorrent, you could block those ports.
