I think the more people that call and are irate the more likely they are to follow through with the deal. This is the time to be calling, not after they made their decision. Just a thought,

I just called and was told that they were unsure what was going to happen. And that the 'promotion' had expired. Supposedly Buycom was 'in conference' with the manfacturer. She could not tell me when a decision would be reached.

I explained how once the credit card was charged that in most States the transaction was legally binding. She argued that it says such and such [disclaimer] on their site and that nothing about the second switch was on the invoice. I politely informed her that anyone could put anything on a web site but that it did not mean that what was there is legal as it is State Law that governs e-commerce.

I then related the now famous Hitachi Monitor debacle that is still tied up in the courts and the consumers were awaiting distribution of that 'web site error.'

I told her that if my order had been simply canceled, I would not complain, but now they have the use of MY money and we all know it takes a couple of weeks to get credit if you RMA anything! I was offered an RMA number, but I'm waiting until a 'decision' is made by them. Thay might be the 'ace in the hole' for getting the second switch.

Anyhow, the CSR was kind and understanding although she made it clear that she could not discuss it any further. No surprise!

At this point, I'm betting they work out a deal with the manfacturer and that those customers that have received one already will end up with the second. This would be inline with the monitor deal where the price was honored for the monitors that were in stock.

We'll see.

Sounds like this may get somewhere. EVERYONE CALL IN. Call in and tell them the problem and argue, but dont call to bitch. That cant be good, they need to seriosly look into it now.

I really hope this all works out.

I expect to get my switch(es) tomorrow. If it is only one, I will call up Buycomp and tell them I want the other one as per their offer (which I accepted and paid for).

I let them slide on the monitor thing, but not this time!

About the microwarehouse deal, is there any info about it on their page? If so what's the link?
Buy.com is pretty screwed up too... I made 2 orders one this morning and one on 3/5, the one this morning has already been "sent to warehouse" while the one on 3/5 is still in the processing stage. WTF is up with that?

EVERYONE - you need to keep ALL correspondence that you receive from Buy.com. You should also be documenting your telephone conversations (who you spoke to, when, what was said), as well as be taking screen-shots of the rebates webpage AND the product description page showing the "buy one, get one free" offer. At 12:01 AM, I'll be capturing yet another screen-shot showing the "rebate offer" still on their website as of 07 March 2001 - four days running.

You should also be making your calls via a cell phone or other traceable means, since their customer service number is an 800 number (which may or may not show up on your phone bill since the call is not billed to your number). This way you have irrefutable evidence of calling to "clarify" the offer, as I did TWICE on Sunday once it became apparent that others couldn't keep-shut until after the switches shipped (damn, calling the CSRs screwed the deal AGAIN!).

And for those of you that are really adventureous, place a second order for the same number of switches.... I'll leave that one, at that.

Hey,
if anyone has the the pages for the smc 1 port switch with the information regarding
the free 2nd switch and/or the rebates page with the information about the 2nd switch free, please email it to me and I will post the page for everyone to refer to. Alternatively, you could post it yourself and give us all a link. This would give us all some grounds to work with when dealing with buy.c0m. I saved my receipt and it did not state that the 2nd switch would be free.

I don't save anything in cache... doh.

Okay, time to get our "ducks-in-a-row", so to speak. For anyone like cmatthes1 that bought more than one (1) switch at the previous price (bought 3, got 3 free), could you please post how many switches you ordered as well as whether you got one free switch for each switch ordered (ie. buy one, get one free as currently posted on the website) or one free switch per order.

todays - did you order more than one switch?

It would be much appreciated

The LIST
Buy one, got one free:

cmatthes1 - bought three (3), received six (6) (original promotion)
johnwoo1 - bought two (2), received four (4) ($139.95 promotion)

Buy more than one, but only got one free:
anyone????

jaybert - this is just f-cking outstanding....

"Uhm..i know people who got the switch when they were $250, buy one get one free. So obviously it wasnt a typo from the beginning....And how do you have a typo that says "buy one get one free"? The web designer all of a sudden have a hand spazm and by the luck of god it printed out buy one get one free?"

I received one and only one switch today.

It's time to gather the troops and by that I mean a somewhat
concerted effort to force the issue with buy.com. Gather your evidence, share it and
let it spread. Now is when everyone should be calling, before they make a decision
and screw their customers.

They should honor this promotion. I don't know how much bad press
they can take seeing how their stock is trading at 3/8 with a
volume of only 561,700 shares.

I ordered mine on 3/5/01 and it says SENT TO WAREHOUSE. I figure since I live in the Midwest, the warehouses in this area won't be sold out yet.
