SMB share - not working, can't see other PC on network

my setup:

1st PC - gaming PC
2nd PC - media server/PVR
modded xbox
DLink 624 g router

I can ftp from either machine to the xbox. Both PCs are in the same workgroup (MSHOME - i know, i know, but i wanted to keep it simple til i got it working).

I've enabled sharing by rt-clicking on each drive and going to sharing option. There's a little hand-icon on each drive in Windows explorer.

about half the time, my xbox can't connect to the SMB share... i'll reboot a few times, then I can see the PCs and access files.

Also, for some reason, I can't see either PC from the other PC. i don;t know what the heck is going on anymore.

any tips would be great.

thanks,
robert.

To make your life easier, install the Netbui/IPX/SPX protocol on all your windows boxes.. It makes local network browsing much more reliable from my experience. Keep TCP/IP protocols installed too.. It's just adding another layer of reliability.
