I'm tired of paying $70/mo. for my VZW Galaxy Nexus and hardly ever using the unlimited 4G (hardly out and need it). Since I'm mostly on wifi, could I just deactivate the phone service on it and all other functions will still work including wifi?

I figure I can just use my spouse's dumbphone for actual phone needs and use the GNex as a 4" "tablet". Even if I pick up a 7" tablet, I can still use the GNex around the house too.

I know GPS won't work when I'm out but Maps still will. Anything else, assuming I can do it?

On a second thought, if you have an unlimited Verizon account and are not bound by contracts any more, you may be able to sell that account on eBay.

Assuming you're done with the (usual) 24 month contract, I would sell the account on eBay. People pay money for these accounts with grandfathered unlimited data. You can then use your GN as a WiFi toy. You should be able to pre-cache maps area, then GPS should work for most part.

If you cancel your service the Gnex will work just fine on Wifi. I'm sure there are some wifi only ROMS out there too. Not that you'd need one for it to work.

Pretty much when you disconnect everything itll work like a laptop or a table whatever is installed should work on it and when on wifi you can still update. The only thing that will work calling wise on the phone is 911 for emergency purposes.
