Yeah, yeah, i have to be on modem when im not at school, but i bought a US robotics 2 weeks ago for 50 bucks in an emergency and it works like crap. Picked up the SmartLink PCI internal at compUSA for 4.88 and works better than US robotics! :D

Moral of the story... i cant wait to go back to school and be on DSL again

Unless they state that it's a hardware modem, it's most likely software based (aka Win Modem)

It shows 7 in stock in my area, but they couldn't find them.
So they simply denied selling it to me.
And they were rude!
CompUSA sux!

Hmm, glad you like it. My family used to own the company that makes SmartLink modems. Can't believe they're selling so low now. Hope it works out well for you.

Denied in Western Michigan. Shows 2 in stock at E. Paris locale according to their in-store database. Walked to and from the modem shelves twice with low-paid retail clerk. I even told him I'd only buy one and let him buy the other. Oh well.

Yo... I hooked up w/ some girl... she wasn't that hot though. So Sorry. I figured I'd tell you cuz I'm trashed. A hot deal would be to hook up w/ that blonde chick who was eileen's best friend (long island area... specifically Nassau) cause she was puttin out like nobody's business... she got tit*ies. Sorry if anyone get's pissed off. If it bothers you, yell at me. I deserve it. I shouldn't go online when I'm wasted as all sh*t. Don't ride the horse. Note to all you f**kers... College girls love to put out. Either way... I hooked up w/ this girl who got me a panasonic 2.4 for 76 bucks (not the one with the answering machine) cause her dad liked me. Too bad I don't like her no mo. Goal is to get my c*ck licked. my bad. Please don't hate me. Yo, all you boys out there... do it up!

I picked up a few at my local CompUSA (there are none left now...)

At any rate, these are ESS ES56T-PI controllerless modems. These
are quite decent non-hardware modems. MUCH better than the turdy
PCTell softmodems that one finds for $5 after rebate when bottom
feeding...

In addition to standard modem features, these modems can perform
personal voice mail with multiple mailboxes/answering machine and
FAXing. (Does anyone actually use their modem/computer as their
answering machine?)

The other good news is that there are drives for this modem for
LINUX, as well as for the usual suspects (Win95/98/Me/2000).

If you need a modem, and your CompUSA has these, it's a no-brainer.

Link through here to get to the drivers for the ES56T-PI / 5634PEW for
Windows (98/Me/2000).

Here's the ftp link for the Linux drivers.

This page has
more info about Linux drivers (but ultimately leads to above ftp
link).
