SmartFTP Upload "Speed Limit"?

on my lan, smartftp will only let me upload at 2-4MB/s to other computers, but other ftp clients (cute, leech, ftpvoyager, etc) will let me hit 9-10MB/s. anybody else have this problem? this is not a network problem, rather software, specifically smartftp, the ftp servers i am running all work excellent.... does smartftp has some kind of upload "speed limit" i am not aware of? i really like smartftp, but need the addtional speed when moving around large files (500MB-1GB per file, not a lot of little files, but very large ones) on the lan
