HI, my name is Bob and I am a retard. Anyhow, when I am installing windows 2000, it says setup did not detect smartdrive and recommends that I run it to dramatically increase file copy time. Where do I find this to install it?

"Dramatic" is an understatement. The speed difference will be something like comparing the speed of a snail with a broken leg super glue'd to the pavement against the speed of the space shuttle.

Smartdrv.exe can be found on any of the win9x CD's. Just copy it to your boot floppy and run smartdrv before kicking off the install.

If you've already started the install of W2K and it's less than 97% through the file copy phase, it'll be quicker to reboot and restart with smartdrv running.

If you boot from the W2K CD, you won't get that error. It *is* part of the setup!

If you boot to another OS (i.e. boot floppy) and then run W2K setup, you'll get that message.

Smartdrv is a component of the OS you're booting from to start the W2K installation, not a part of W2K. 😉
