This player would be an excellent choice for use with an older television that only has composite video inputs.

Most TVs built in the last five years or so have S-Video inputs in addition to composite, which they retain primarily for the use of VCRs. The S-Video connection splits the high-resolution monochrome signal from the low-resolution color signal. The best way to explain the result is to examine text or sharply-defined graphics on a TV fed by a composite signal. You'll find that the borders of text or graphic shapes are very blurry, with bleed from the various color signals.

Switch to an S-Video connection for the same source and you'll be surprised how sharp and clean the graphics and text becomes. Once you have tried S-Video, or Component Video (the very latest video input technology) you will very likely not be happy with composite, especially with a high resolution source like a DVD player.

If your TV offers S-Video or Component Video connectivity, consider spending at most $10 to $20 more for a DVD player with these options.

Just my 2¢.
