I am interested in the new e8400. But do you think prices for CPUs will lower much when Nvidia launches their new video cards? And will this be in Feb or March?

me personally, i'm not buying untill summer. i'm waiting for intel's new chips to come to market, then settle down. same for the nvidia 9 series. there will be no change in intel cpu pricing.

"And will this be in Feb or March?"

my crystal ball says....thursday.

I think Intel has some scheduled price drops in April, but I'm not sure if E8400 will or not.
It's doubtful nVidia will affect Intel prices, they're in different markets.

The price drop on CPU will not be worth waiting 3 months. I've spent a little premium when Conroe came out first. Never regretted for a moment because the CPU saved me a lot of time crunching out files.

I thought that the e8400 was supposed to cost $179. How long do we have to wait before they actually sell for that price?

Wait a bit, initial product releases are always higher as demand is always higher then

Waiting even just a month or two not only gets the CPU price down but also the X38 chipset down which in turn will lower the P35 pricing down as well once the X48 comes around

E8400 and E8500 demand will cool once the new Quads are available

Tech always goes down it NEVER goes up

Anybody who has been following new hardware closely for the past 6-12 months, especially, knows that the trend has been for new hardware to hit the market at slightly above forecasted price, sell out round one of supply rapidly, followed by price gouging with the next rounds of re-supply. Prices then even out and remain flat. 8800GT has hardly budged, ditto for Q6600, just to name a few examples of "hot" items.

Moral : If you want a Wolfie any time soon (from now to 2-4 mos out), may as well pick it up while it's still in stock. 3 month wait might save you ten bucks, 20 if you're really lucky ...

Yes except there was no close next tier product as competition for a long time for the Q6600

Q6600 vs Q6700 $277 vs $539

the Q6600 always will have a strong demand with the next step up being a 100% price increase

E8400 has not only the E8500 but the new Quads, PLus the Q6600 as competition

8800GT, thare is no other option at that price point so demand will stay brisk, hence holding pricing
