This might not apply to DSLR shooters but I find the pics from my Canon P&S cameras (A85 & S3) to be inherently soft. So I usually do a bit of sharpening to make the picture pop a bit more.
The method Ive been using is the method suggested by benjikan
USM
Amount: 100%
Radius: 0.3 pixels
Threshold: 0

USM
Amount: 11%
Radius: 45 pixels
Threshold: 0

But i just played around with Smart Sharpen and Im now torn on which to use.

What kinda sharpening do you guys use?

I use both. Smart Sharpen of 35+, radius 1 for fine detail and USM of 50, radius 5, level 20 to make things pop out and look a bit more 3D.
