Yeah, natural selection is no longer about surviving long enough to reproduce, it's about being able to make good enough money to provide for your children's education, so that they can make good enough money to pay for their children's education, and so on. The rewards for good genes and a good upbringing are a comfortable life and more power and influence in the world. And if the world tumbles into a major worldwide crisis somehow (WWIII, massive famines, whatever), you and your offspring are the most likely to survive because you have access to the most resources.
