Is it legal for me to sell my DVD collection if I don't have the cases? I only have the actual DVD's.

Yes. The DVD itself serves as both the media and the license. The boxes proof of purchase is generally only used for rebates/promotions/etc

Don't expect to get terribly much. Most people (used movie places especially) want the original cases, either to use as storage, as proof you didn't just pillage an electronics store, or both.

How big is the collection anyway? Any especially choice items?

About 30-40 DVD's. I'll post it on FS/FT probably.
