Smart fan controls not working

I recently upgraded my motherboard and now my smart fan controls are not working, no matter what I do the fan runs at full speed.

My old motherboard was a Microstar from eMachines and the smart fan worked just fine on the fan the board came with, now I have this motherboard:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813123257

I've gone into the BIOS and set smart fan on, and have also used their Thunder Probe utility to set smart fan on, neither do anything. My cpu temperature hovers around 40C which according to the settings should be around 3300 RPMs, but the fan stays at 4800 RPMs.

Is there anything I could do or try? Or do I just need a new CPU fan?

First thing I would do is see if there is a BIOS update for your board. If that doesn?t work you could try SpeedFan.

You also might want to try the motherboard forum and see if anyone has any experience wit that particular board.

There is only one BIOS update available, and the only thing it says it fixes is "Added 'DRAM bank Interleaving' and 'Burst Length' item." I'm not a big fan of trying it out anyways just in case, even though Flashing a BIOS is supposed to be easy nowadays I've fried a motherboard in the past and not in the mood to try it again for something that looks like won't fix my problem.

I've got Speedfan as well, doesn't do anything either. I have messed with all of the settings, Speedfan properly drops down the fan percentage on its own due to the low temperatures, and still no fan RPM decrease.

Then I would suggest you try the motherboard forums and see if anyone else has that has that particular board can help you. Otherwise you can try Epox tech support.
