Hope someone can help. I got Raptor 150GB and on my new rig Asus P5W DH Deluxe I'm often getting smart error. When I installed system on another drive (Rapto 74GB) I'm not getting it anymore when Raptor 150 is second drive. I'm getting those smart errors when 150 is system drive. Should I RMA the drive. But I'm afraid that it will comeback and they will say that there's nothing wrong with the drive if it's not showing smart error when used as second drive.

onthink, do you have also ASUS P5W DH Deluxe? Maybe it's something to do with sata driver and we need soem biso update. Also do you have partitions on your raptor?

Run a drive fitness test program on the drive. SMART is not always "smart." The difference would be the MBR area of the drive. It is used when it is the boot drive, but not necessarily when a slave/data drive.

Actually SMART should be an option in most bioses to toggle on/off for any IDE/SATA HDD so it's possible that the OP has it disabled for slave devices. However I'm not aware of SMART analyzing the MBR. Instead it would monitor mechanical attributes of the drive over time. However I agree with using WD Data Lifeguard to test the drive. If it passes I would run a different mfg's (Seagate, IBM, etc.) diag on it for a second opinion.

Agree, John - I was thinking of a drive mechanical problem in the area of the MBR. That would explain the difference.
