would anyone want this?

say you took an android phone and mounted it in the siding where your doorbell is (or somewhere similar). of course make it look right and nice. on the screen, there would be names or pictures of who lives in the house and the visitor would just press who they are looking for. inside, the ring would change for each person, like custom ringtones for your doorbell.

the speaker could be installed where your current bell is right now, and use the 24v to get power, and audio from bluetooth. you would just need a way to get 5v to the front door to keep the phone running.

its not even something i would personally want right now, but i remember growing up in a family it was always a chore to answer the door and then go get the person who its actually for. but, for someone like me, i could say have random bell rings... just to keep things different.

im guessing it would be about $150 in parts and install wouldnt be too bad, could be done in an hour or two.

Instead, you could use a small touchscreen with a Raspberry Pi. That would give more flexibility as you can program exactly what you need, plus have the option for add-ons...

Not sure how much but the Pi is going for about £25 / $50 ish... Although they are highly sought after until production really ramps up.

And how much is a small touchscreen going to cost alongside the Pi, versus a cheap Android phone/tablet?
