Smart deinterlacing for DivX

Hey guys,

I'm trying to use a better deinterlacing method for converting VOB files to DivX. Anybody have any ideas how? The only really good deinterlacing method I know is the "smart deinterlace" filter by Donald Graft, because it only deinterlaces moving areas within a frame, not the entire frame. That's only for VirtualDub though I think, and that doesn't read VOB files. I just ripped "French Kiss" among other things, and set the deinterlacing threshold on FlaskMPEG to 20, and the clip looked kind of blurry from over deinterlacing at times, and yet I can still see combing effects at other times.

You could use a DVD2AVI project to frameserve into Nandub, which support Donald Grafts filters (Its just a Vdub port). I've used that method using the GordianKnot package with success. Check Doom9, as there may be more recent methods (I've been out of the Divx encoding loop for the summer) and it seems you can deinterlace at the codec level IIRC in Divx 5, but I'm not a big Divx5 fan yet, and still use Divx 3.11a with Nandubs SBC 2 pass for encoding to get my best encodings.
Good Luck!
