Ok, I do not know about most people who are smarter then your average joe, and I am not trying to brag on myself or anything at all, but I have a very high IQ (not going to say) and can comprehend advanced concepts pretty easily, however I seem to be the most clumsy person around. I will be walking and just trip, If I don't hit my elbow on a door or something during a day its been an unusual day, I will walk into walls sometimes (don't laugh.. I mean its not like every day, but a lot more frequent then most people.) sometimes I will be driving and get to thinking and drive like 20 miles out of the way passing the place I was going before I realize it.

is it just me or the smarter you are, the more clumsy and accident prone you are?

I do have an higher-than-average IQ, however, I'm not clumsy at all.

I guess it's just you ;)

lol, could be, runs in the family, its not like I am extremly clumsy I just have my moments every day, its not so much tripping/runing into things as its spilling something, my lord if I have something around me to spill chances are I will spill it... I am the worst about that.. hell I just spilled my bottle of spring water (Which had the top on, yet it still managed to spill) all over my desk.. which was my inspiraton for posting this, lol

I do the same thing.

People have often told me that I'm so smart, I can't even tie my own shoe. I provide much humor to those around me with my actions, and I don't do it consciously. I suffer from the same things as you, so let me know if you find a cure :)

My brother is a classic case of that... gets 97 in everything (in university), spills food down his shirt, trips over anything on the ground, does lots of stupid stuff. If he can do vector calculus in his sleep, why can't he turn a corner while driving without jerking the wheel? It's weird.

I'm no freaking genius, you can count my IQ on two hands :D, but maybe its because your mental capabilities are being diverted more to "being smart" than to performing other simple medial tasks?

Kind of like Autistic people for example, some can be geniuses in math, but they can't even recite the alphabet.

Ithink you could be right!
I worked at research camps while an undergrad and helped lots of different grad students. They have to be some of the most unpractical dumb people I've ever met. PhD students were usually worse!

I hope it's true. I'm a clumsy mess most of the time. I stumble, trip, slam my fingers in doors, stub my toes at least once a day, drop stuff and generally just klutz around.

I'm usually thinking of a million things other than what I'm doing, so I guess I'm more absentminded than usual.

Perhaps it could indicate you are using your brain a lot and devoting a lot of time to such things as reading, studying, computing, and not getting a lot of physical activity which could tune up your balance and reflexes.

OTOH "smart=clumsy" and the reverse "clumsy=smart" was also true, then I am surrounded by geniuses every day.

Kewlb = clumsy ??? HAH! I think intelligent people tend to be absent minded, and absent minded people tend to not pay attention to what they are doing. When you dont pay attention to what you are doing, it often results in clumsy behavior?
