Smart Cards =! Magnetic fields?

Are smart cards, the type used for access control systems like doors and gates, susceptible to magnetic fields? My card isn't working as good as it used to. The exterior casing isn't damaged. Maybe it is because they were jacking with the reader.

It depends on how it works. Is it just a magnetic stripe? If that's the case, then it's like any credit card and can be ruined by a magnetic field getting too close.

smart card use ic n eeprom and are not affected by magnetic fields, yours seem to be a magnetic card and if it is then u know the answer, and if it is magnetic you'll see a black stripe at the back whereas for smart cards you'll see golden tracks just like a SIM card

No golden tracks that are visible, maybe inside the card. It's just a white blank card with a notch cut in the top that can be attached to a name tag clip. I think its RFID/passive circuitry design. Definately not magnetic like the strip on creditcards.

I just wanted to know if there was anything that would degrade the RFID pattern in the card other than opening the thing and scratching the pattern. Like can the pattern be magnetized which could affect the reader's ability to "sense" the pattern is near.
