Smallville

I'm barely starting to watch Season 6 of Smallville and I was wondering, what's the logic behind having both Shawn and Aaron Ashmore in the series? Shawn showed up in 2 seasons as a bad guy and now Aaron plays Jimmy Olson? Huh?

Also, sorry if this was asked at the beginning of Season 6 but I guess the archives aren't back up to be searched.

I am honestly surprised that Smallville even got renewed for Season 6 after the craptacular 4th and 5th seasons. Apparently, its also been renewed for season 7 as well.
I haven't watched all of season 6 yet, but I can guess that there will be a dramatic season finale which will be concluded in the opening of season 7 and completely erased and taken back to the status quo.
