Smallest DVD Drive?

Need a small DVD drive with as little depth as possible.. No more than 5 1/2 " would be great.

Looked around and can't find one =/ Any suggestions or am I out of luck?

DVD drives wil lalways be of the same size because DVD's always are. so they'll be 5"25.

however you can get smaller height drives for laptops, called slimline drives. something like this:

Do you want a DVD reader drive or want burn capabilities? Also, TSS, he is referring to depth difference, of which they do vary greatly. The Soyo-Custom's TDK440n DVD burner is a full 2 inches longer than the Samsung 248F CD burner in the Dell.

Just a reader. Speed is not very important either, as long as it can play DVD movies that's all that matters.

You could do as in TSS's suggestion and get something like the Pioneer Slim Slot-Load DVD burner followed by the 5.25" slim DVD drive conversion kit. The kit would come with this Conversion Board. This would conver the combine signal and power connection that notbooks use into the separate IDE, sound, and mini 4pin power connectors.

See the drive I have now is 6.5" deep and it would fit where I want it except I can't connect the power..

Ah thanks. It seems that slim slot drives are not very deep so maybe that'll work.

In the case of simple readers i wouldn't worry about anything. They already are pretty small and all of them are very similar.

Have you tried to connect the cables before you attach the drive to the bay?
