smallest computer speakers?

Anyone know what the smallest computer speakers are? Is it safe to take apart the plastic casing around speakers, too?

Or do you know if it's possible to buy small speakers without the "casing?"
 
The drivers would work without the casing, but you'd be left with a bunch of speaker drivers and a crossover, and nowhere to put/mount them properly. It would sound very bad, and look very ugly too.

Make sure you use fully shielded speakers for this. I would worry about stray magnetic fields.
 
If you search around, you can find a set of speakers that fits into a 5 1/2 inch bay. Sounds decent for what it is too.

If I am misinterpreting what you want, Im sorry.

As for internal speakers, you could go to your neighborhood comp store and see if they have e-machines. They yusally come with these minature speakers, and you might be able to buy them if you ask. 🙂

I would just say be REALLY careful with stray magnetic feilds... I don't let my subwoofer within 4 feet of my computer after I saw what it did to my monitor when held 2 feet away (even at 2 feet the screen distorted) Then again, I KNOW that the magnet in a sub is far stronger than one of the satalites and it's not sheilded, but I'd still be carefull.. You can go with the FPS1800's and take the 4 satallites out of the cases and put them in your computer case.... Also, Boston has a set of rathar large desktop speakers (no sub, just two speakers) that have good sound, and the speaker assembly is small... I took them apart and glued the speakers to my wall so I could listen to music at night in my bed with the speakers right at my ears.
 
Yeah, the 5.25 bay speakers are at CyberGuys or Geeks or something like that 🙂 How deep do they go in though? I'm making a small computer case so I was thinking about integrating them inside the computer case.
 
Isn't the magnetic shielding in the plastic covering of the speakers? So if you take the speakers out then there will be no shielding?

Well, what if I surrounded the back side with a thin layer of aluminum? 🙂 Or is mag shielding more complicated than that.

I really think laptop speakers are the way to go though.. Anyone know if it's possible to use them in a desktop computer?
 
magnetic shielding is a lot more complicated than that. The laptop speakers will work fine. Even though a speaker is "magnetically shielded" that doesn't mean it doesn't have any stray mag fields. If you are using a small speaker you should be fine if you keep it away from your hd's, ram, and cpu (~10-20cm away?)

What are you trying to accomplish? Do you just want a pc speaker? You can get plain drivers from www.partsexpress.com or www.madisound.com pretty cheap. at partsexpress, click "speakers" > "woofers under 6.5" a lot of shielded drivers under 10 dollars.

or do you actually want to listen to music etc with them(bad idea).

No, I don't really intend them to be great to listen to. I'm making a tiny computer case (very tiny) and want to integrate speakers into it so that there are less wires (going to integrate a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse into it).

How would the laptop speakers work though? Like, do they have normal audio plugs like PC speakers? Also, do they come with volume dials?
