I'm trying to build a computer to put in my car. I'm looking for the smallest profile case and motherboard to go with it. Only need to have a internal 3.5" bay and external 5.25" bay with possibly 2 pci slot for network card and possibly video or sound card. If anyone having a suggestion or idea, I will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

I think the smallest standard form factor is flexATX. A few companies make these mobos, I think that most of them are based on the i810 chipset and have integrated video, sound, lan. Flex ATX cases ususally can take low profile PCI cards or PCI riser cards. A bunch of companies make flex cases, Elan Vital makes a pretty kewl looking one.

If you don't mind buying complete prebuilt system there are several that are MUCH smaller than flexATX solutions. They really don't allow use of standard parts though. Here are a couple examples I saw in the General Hardware forum: link, link.

Just outta curiousity... "with possibly 2 pci slot for network card and possibly video or sound card" - what kinda network do you plan on having in your car? =)

Why don't you just buy a laptop? Could mount somewhere and just connect your cables. Its got the power you need, is tiny, has a built-in battery backup, etc. Just a bit more pricey. Otherwise you might try one of those new 1U rack cases - very thin and have everything you need.

Just be careful where you mount it - If you live in a warm climate running it in your trunk could get hot. Very HOT. Might not last very long.

I want a network card so I can download info to the HD. The other slot might be for enhance video or sound if the mobo don't come with it built in, or whatever I can think of. I'm thinking of putting a DVD-ROM in the 5.25" bay. I just need something to do to kill time, and I thought this would be a good project. Haven't thought about where to put it yet to compensate for the heat.
