Anyone know what the smallest (dimension-wise) ATX psu is (hopefully non-1u)? Do mATX and flex ATX use ATX connectors, too? I'm looking for probably a 150 or 200 watt small psu.

Hello,

I believe that mATX is an industry standard size in dimensions, like regular ATX is. The mATX uses the same plug/pinout as a regular ATX does. The 200W is the largest I've seen also.

Thanks!

Anyone own one? If so, which one do you have and what's your opinion of it? Also, is it loud or quiet?

There are three basic modern psu configurations- PS2(standard AT & ATX), PS3, and SFX. There are other, less common sizes, mostly U-series, for rackmount equipment. SFX supplies don't have a -5v output, few (if any) modern mobos need it. Read up on the subject at www.formfactors.org.

Hmm.. well FormFactors.org has a bunch of technical documents that are kind of hard to read :) From what I understand from some of the documents, the mATX & flexATX power supplies are missing a -5V that the ATX power supplies have. Does that mean they absolutely won't work on an ATX board? Also, do ATX power supplies work with mATX mobos?

Basically I'm trying to make my own small computer case so I don't really care about mounting holes or anything like that - just if it works or not :)

Can anyone verify what eplebnista said?

I have a standard ATX power supply connected to a micro ATX motherboard and it works fine. But I haven't tried connecting a micro ATX power supply to an ATX motherboard.

Power supplies from emachines are pretty small, and most don't have fans, so they're silent.
