Smaller than 4.3GB?

I have a couple very old, very small HDDs that are between 3.6GB and 4.3GB, I was hoping to find an OS small enough to install on them. Ubuntu asks for 4.6+GB. Any ideas?

I know Ubuntu 10.04 will fit in 4gb, but you could try Xubuntu 11.04. That should fit, and I like Xfce better than Unity anyway. You could also use Debian, or one of the tiny distros like Puppy or SliTaz.

I would second Puppy, its quite compact, as well as memory efficient. Also depends on the hardware you are coupling with the HDD, will it be equally as ancient.

Ironically enough i just found a 6.4 GB drive laying in my shop... I was testing a bunch of IDE drives to see if they would be worth keeping... the 6.4GB drive failed... into the recycle pile it went...

We tried both Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04 and they said 4.6 was needed. I will try Xubuntu and Puppy.

They will be put with newer hardware.
