I have a 8 x 13 kitchen I'm redoing. Two walls will be taken up by kitchen cabinets. I'm planning to put in a 12 x 12" floor tile. I was told by someone that you should use small tiles for small rooms???? Like 6 x 6"

Well smaller tiling gives you more flexibility in that you don't have to do as much cutting of the tile to accommodate rooms.

Big tiling can also make a small room feel even smaller.

I think for a kitchen though, 12x12" tiling would look better (6x6" is very bathroom esque in my mind).

We have 16 x 16 tile througout our first floor kitchen, dining room and living room (all large), as well as our guest bathroom and master bath (both small).

Big tile in a big room, smaller tile in a small room. I think 12" tile looks fine in smaller rooms. 16" tile in your kitchen would probably dwarf the rest of the room, but 12" would be fine. I agree 6" tile is best left for bathrooms.

This is one of the reasons why we have programs like Photoshop. ;) Take a gander, see how it looks.

I think 12x12 would be fine in any room. Once you go bigger it will get bad, though.

Just did our bathroom and its a little over 125 sq/ft and we did 12"x12" marble tiles and they worked fine.

Just make sure you center teh tile and put the same size small peices on the side with the the full peices centered down the middle.
Also have you tiled before and know what to use on YOUR subfloor?

Word. The bathroom we re-tiled a few months ago was 6'x5' and looks just fine with 12".

I dont like large rooms with all the same size tile. We did our kitchen in a mixture of 6x6, 6x12, and 12x12.

Here is a link for tile patterns....we used Vectored
