Hey all...

My wife is getting ready to leave on a deployment, and would like to be able to do some computer work while she is away.

Portability is key for her... she really likes the smaller form factor (light and thin) laptops.

Anybody have a recomendation for a laptop with a 10-12.1 LCD that is thin and light? I would like to keep the price under $2000, but the cheaper the better. Let me know if you have any experience/recomendations.

TIA

Latitude x300. I've set up about a dozen of these for clients in the past couple months. Excellent system and very reasonably priced.

I will look in to those two... thanks for the advice.

How about those tiny sonys with the integrated camera? Are they any good? She likes the "way they look" *sigh*

yes! go with IBM
x40 = 2.7lbs
x31 = 3.7lbs

you can get x40 for less than $1600 from ibm, IIRC. nothing can beat the config on it with the size and weight accordingly.

$1500 for it :Q:Q:Q

Ultra Low Voltage Intel® Pentium® M processor 1.00GHz
Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Intel Extreme Graphics 2
Integrated Intel PRO/1000 Gigabit Ethernet

Intel PRO/Wireless Network Connection 802.11b
IBM Embedded Security Subsystem 2.0

get an external usb cdrw/dvd combo for it, if she needs it.

I wanna trade my x30 for x40 now...

Hehe... I have to draw the line there I think. :)

Update...

She wants a DVD drive integrated, so the X40 is out. She doesn't want to have to carry extra stuff. If you saw everything she had to carry now, you would understand. I can barely lift her pubs bag.

The Fujitsu P5000 is comparable to the Sony you mentioned.

The Fujitsu has a few advantages, such as a multibay, so you can swap the optical drive for a battery, a replacable/upgradeable hard drive and compact-flash/memory stick/secure digital slots. It also has SPDIF digital audio out, firewire, S-Video and VGA (with dongle) among other things.
