Small sized web development language books

I would like to have a smaller book for web development languages like JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, Ruby, etc. I go to school and my back pack is already big, and having big books in it doesn't help. I know that smaller books are going to have less information, but I don't mind buying a small book now and later buying a bigger book.

My suggestion would be just to print out tutorials/references from online and read them in school. Use school printers. 🙂 Cheaper this way.

Heck, the ruby book is free online anyways. At least the first edition, which should be fine to begin with. MySQL books that you purchase are pretty similar to their online reference too. I think they even have a printed book form of it. As for JS and PHP, they're popular enough that there's almost endless online references/tutorials on them.

I couldn't think of any small books, so that's my alternative suggestion.

Well, I know HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, and MySQL all have Windows style help files (.chm) for their respective manuals. This is what I use and it's very handy because they all include not just the ToC, but index and search as well.

Hmm, I just checked and the javascript is actually Microsoft Jscript manual.

PDF versions + Flash Drive FTW. Then you can take volumes upon volumes. 😉

+ PDA or small laptop.

I currently use my iPAQ (with 640x480 res) to read PDFs. I'm hoping for the new EEE laptop to come out with the 9" lcd so I can try that.
