I just serviced a couple of HP/Compaq desktops computers. Installed some RAM and perform some cleaning. I was really surprised to see that the HP desktop, while not exactly modern (P3 600MHz, 512MB of RAM) had a very small PSU, about half the size standard ATX units, with a max output of.... 90 watts!!. The 12v rail maxed out at an astonishing 1.5 amps.
This little PSU is powering a 600MHz PIII, 512MB of RAM, two hard drives, a zip drive, an optical drive and a couple of PCI cards.
The 2nd desktop, a Compaq-branded one had a slightly bigger PSU, rated at 200 watts max load, with 5 amps on the 12v rail. This computer is a bit better, with a 1.8GHz P4 (Willamete I think), 256MB of DDR RAM, a 40GB Seagate hdd, an optical drive, a floppy and a 92mm exhaust fan.
