Small Plastic Tab on PCIE Slot for Video Card

Hey all,

So yeah, that small tab on the end of the pcie slot that clips into the notch at the end of the part on the bottom of your video card that goes in the motherboard slot. I broke it off. The card sits in the slot okay and everything works fine, is this thing even necessary, or more something to just insure it doesn't slip out or whatnot ?

Cheers

your card will work fine as long as its secured, the missing tab my hurt resale price though.

Heh I broke mine as well when installing and uninstalling my 8800gts, I had to put in extra ram but couldn't with the videocard installed. I was kinda scared too, but it's been working fine for a few weeks now. As for resale, my s939 isn't gonna be worth crap when I intend to get rid of it 😀

that tab is only there really to clip to the hook on the graphics card for the purpose of moving the computer (so the card doesnt come out... since graphics cards tend to be larger than say modems and weigh more etc).

a lot of agp boards did not have those, so it was possible to say ship a brand new oem machine and people would think it was dead, because the graphics card was loose etc so those clips got put in by most motherboard companies.

thats all they do.
