I have just started hunting for a light weight laptop. I would like something small (4lbs, 1" thick), good battery life, wireless nic, and DX8 or better graphics card. The graphics card does not need to be fast just support the newest features like pixel shaders, etc. I will not be gaming on the machine much if any. I would like to write opengl and DX programs on it. That is why the video speed is not important, but what it supports is. The Dell x200 looks good but the ac adapter seems to be on the media base, so can you recharge it without the media base. Because not having to carry all the drive bays and stuff around really makes it lighter, and besides I don't really need the drive bays anyway. Also what does the Intel 830MG graphic chipset support? I have even looked at some tablet PC's with keyboards, just because they are small and light. What do you recommend? And when will DX9 laptops be out?

Update: What would be the PC version of the 12" powerbook by apple? I really like OSX, but I would like to write windows programs.

Is the video card in the Toshiba Portégé 4010 DX8? Also how is the Toshiba Portégé R100? I know it is DX8 and very small.

Where can I find a list of all laptop video chipsets and what version of DX they support? Also when do you think we will start seeing DX9 chipsets in laptops? I may wait for them.
