I just surf the web, do word processing and light gaming like Hoyle board games and Bejeweled Twist. Watch the occasional movie. I have a fairly good desk top at home with a 24 inch monitor so I don't really need a desk top replacement. I was wondering which of these would be a good buy?

I would be buying this from Power Purchasing and with the netbooks, I would end up with 2 netbooks and 2 external cd/dvdr/w drives.

I figure any of these would be good for portability possible better than a 15 inch. I commute on a regular basis so something portable and lightweight would be good.

Thanks.

The Touchsmarft is a tablet laptop - different than all the rest. I would choose either the Sony (1), or the H-P (2). Your use suggests a bit more than a netbook. Even for email, I would want at least the 21.2-in screen.

Why would you get TWO netbooks? Wouldn't one be enough?

Since you will watch occasional movies, then IMO you would be better off with an internal drive, so I'd start looking in that direction.

Unfortunately, Power Purchasing has it set up that to buy a Netbook by itself, you have buy a set. Otherwise, buy a laptop and get a single Acer D250 as an accessory. Since I use the bus system to get to work that a smaller and lighter laptop or netbook would be best to take on these commutes. It takes two buses to get to and from work so I much rather get a smaller and lighter laptop/netbook and something that travels ok.
I feel if I get a laptop I don't really need a netbook too.

dont bother buying mini 10 if you are looking to upgrade to 2 gb memory or you want to run win 7 AND the touchpad is awful.
I see you are planning to watch few movies dont bother buying any netbook running intel gma video card. Intel GMA is not very superior like ATI card.

If you have to pick a netbook get the EeePC (wait, so if you have to buy 2 couldn't you get one of each?). It's easier to upgrade the memory and hard drive on those, and might be easier to find accessories and extended batteries.

And is there a reason why you have to go with that particular retailer?

Power purchasing has a payment plan so you don't have to pay the full amount right away. It is through payroll deduction that you pay for the items you purchase. For the holidays they have extended the payments to 18 months rather than 12 months which lower payments. It is very tempting to buy quite a few items that they offer but I feel a small laptop or netbook would fit in with I want to do. I also have an Apple Ipod Touch which I currently use to watch videos and listen to music.
I just thought that with a laptop or netbook I could get a bit more done as far as productivity. Checking and filling out online forms, and writing up papers.

The Mini 10 comes with 2 gigs of ram, MS Works 9 and Norton 360 for a grand total of 1,685.25 for two netbooks and external DVD r/w's which breaks down to 93.62 per month. Doing some research on this, it is a special edition that Dell briefly released, it came with 2 Gigs of Ram and Cellular card connectivity.
Here is the description: Work and play with the WiFi and 3G cellular connectivity. Be productive with a keyboard 92 percent the size of a traditional laptop keyboard. Video chat with the built in 1.3MP webcam. Protected by Norton 360 Security software and 2 year warranty. The Dell 8X DVD?RW external optical drive allows you to enjoy crystal clear picture, color and sound clarity of DVD on your PC. This DVD drive can read/write CD/DVD disks effectively - providing users with full optical read/write.

The Asus comes with Norton 360 and two external DVD r/w's for 1,172.67 total for two which breaks down to 65.15 per month.

The HP Tx2 comes with Norton 360, MS Works and a carrying case for 1368.25 which breaks down to 76.01 a month.

The Sony comes with Norton 360, a Belkin Messenger Bag, and a cush top for 1246.12 which breaks down to 69.23 per month.

I have the latest Microsoft Office Student Edition at home. I also have Windows XP expansion pack from when I had Windows XP Professional.
Edit: I still have my Windows XP Professional CD.

I am really leaning towards the Sony or the ASUS, if I get two netbooks, I can either gift it or sell it on Amazon or Ebay as is.

After a lot of thought, research and going back forth between a netbook and a small laptop.
I hve decided to get the Sony 13 inch that I previously mentioned. All the other laptops were either 15 in or 16 in and I figured for commuting and as secondary computer a 13 inch would be best.

Thanks for all your input.
