Hey Guys,
I know this is a very broad question and I apologize for that but it has been a while since I have been in the high end PC world and I dont really know where to start. I have a pretty extensive PC building experience but it is mostly in office type of machines. I am looking to build a SFF type of PC that would be used mostly for gaming for abour $1000. Can anyone recommend a build? Thanks!

PS: I would also like to use a 17" LCD screen with a low response time any reccomendations on that? I know it won't be as good as a good ole fashioned CRT but space is at a premuim. Gracias!

Hi there and welcome to AT...

You can build a pretty decent SFF Gaming PC for ~$1000, but without a monitor that is. A nice 17" LCD will cost you ~$500 alone, and I will just make a recommendation but not include one in the price.

Shuttle SN45G nForce2 Ultra400 (supports 400Mhz FSB CPUs): $284.00 shipped
AMD Athlon XP2500 Barton OEM (333Mhz FSB, 512K cache): $85.00 shipped
2x Crucial 256MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM OEM: 2x $53.00 = $106.00 shipped
Sapphire Atlantis ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB 8X AGP OEM: $156.00 shipped
Western Digital WD800JB HDD (8MB cache, 3yr. warranty): $87.00 shipped
Samsung SM-352BRNS CDRW/DVD Combo Drive: $70.00 shipped
Windows XP Professional: $147.shipped

The above totals to $935.00 and all of it is from newegg.com.

Optional:
Atech Multi-Slot Card Pro-9 flashcard reader (internal & external): $46.00 shipped

For the monitor, your best bet probably is the Planar PC171M-BK 17" LCD. It retails for ~$550, but look out for Dell deals where you can find it for a lot less.

Hope this helps...
