Small engine magneto coil ignition

Have a push mower with 6.5 HP Briggs and Stratton engine from 2006. NO SPARK. So I order Chinesium replacement coil for $16 (shipped) instead of the $55 OEM replacement. NO SPARK. Tried with current spark plug that was only four years old and a brand new one. What else is there besides the coil and spark plug? The magnet in the flywheel didn't disappear it is still there. I guess I could have gotten a dud coil.

Yeah, there's not much to it. Double check the gap, but really as long as you are in the ballpark you should get something. I assume there is a stop switch you have to disable by pulling a lever on the mower handle. If so, maybe check to ensure that isn't causing your issue?

That was it the whole time. For whatever reason, the kill switch cable is no longer throwing the switch arm far enough to disengage the switch. The cable and handle are intact and moving, it's just not pulling it far enough. Mower was working two weeks ago. I think the cable may be about to break inside the sleeve/jacket, is starting to elongate from fraying inside there, just hasn't broken yet.

It will be the #3 kill switch cable for this mower in nearly 19 years. Thanks for the tip!

HA! I got the replacement cable, went to replace it and pulled the handle/arm and the current cable finally broke inside the sleeve/jacket. Just needed one more pull. All that nonsense and it was just the kill switch cable. Oh well got it all tuned up now!
