Small Digital Cameras

Anyone here have the Canon Powershot SD300/200 or S410/500? I was thinking about upgrading to one of these (I currently have the Powershot S300) but was wondering if it was worth the upgrade. Anyone have any input? I like the canon digital elphs, but I suppose if there's something similar I should consider that too.

EDIT: I'm aiming for 4MP since I have a 2MP camera, 3 doesn't seem like a big enough step, wouldn't mind 5 though.

I don't know a lot about cameras, but I have an SD200 and think it's great for simple P&S shots. It's small enough that I'll actually bring it places, and otherwise very convenient for snapping shots. Quality probably isn't tops, but it serves its purpose quite well.

I have a powershot S500 and I love it. The low light pictures come out really nice. I wish it had a larger LCD screen like the newer SD200/SD300's.

The Sony T1 is a nice slim small camera with a large LCD screen, 5mp, & 3x Optical Zoom. I read that it takes average to poor low light pictures.

For about $270+ shipping i can get either the SD300 or S500, and for about $220 I can get the S410 or SD200. I'm torn because I"m wondering if it's worth it for just and extra megapixel, and also torn on whether to get an SD camera or compact flash one again.

If you already have compactflash, why not continue with it? You won't have to buy any new cards.

I have a S400 and i am VERY happy with it. Great little cam.

Well I have a 64MB card, never really needed a bigger one. With more megapixels I'll prolly need to buy a new card anyway, so I dunno. For those that have the SD series cameras, are they really a lot smaller than the CF-based ones? And are they comfortable to carry around in your pocket if you wanted to?

Ahh...yeah, you'd need to get a bigger card anyway. I carry the S400 in my pocket a lot, and it doesn't bother me.

To look at differences in size and weight, take a look here

Ya, stay away from the T1

i have the Canon SD300. Have had it for about 3 months. Best damn camera evar! (well for that size/style anyways).

take out a credit card, it's a tad smaller in size (not depth wise of course). It's that small, with a rather large lcd screen. Beautiful pics.

I will never EVER buy sony as long as they stick to their damned memory sticks. I want a more standard memory media, my ipaq reads both CF and SD so I would like one of those. I wonder what the difference is between 185grams and 115grams (diff between S410 and SD200)

about 70 grams.

😛

the sony actually isn't all that bad. although it's true that it's not that great in low light, it still takes great pics. the video feature also worked really well. my gf got some cool vids of interpol.

The SD200 can do 640x480 movies and they look really good (they have a sample on steves digicams). I'm really leaning toward that one now.

With the SD200 being $224 shipped, I dunno if I want the one that guy's selling, on the other hand he has a huge memory card included...

Check out some reviews =here.

Also, have you considered the new Sony DSC-P200? I heard that's a nice little camera too. Its a bit bigger than the SD but I think its smaller than the S Canons. Its 7.1MP by the way.

256 isn't that big for the S410.

I've actually found that paying $224 for the SD200, I found a deal on a ATP 256MB 60x SD card from provantage for $30 shipped. 256MB would allow about 150 of the highest res pictures for that camera so I think I might go that route.

PS - did a search, apparently those ATP cards are superfast compared to all other cards. Maybe I should post in the hot deals, only problem is they're backordered til the 18th, but you can't beat the price.

Sony is great in low light focusing, something that Canon hasn't been able to get right.

Actually all the review I've read have said the opposite, that the sony has trouble due to it's underpowered flash, but the digital elphs are doing really well in this department.

Which Sony are you looking at? I was thinking about the ones with the hologram AF assist.
