small cheap phone for a kid

Ya, this is a new thread. This one is for my sons phone. He's at that age.

We want to get him a cheap smartphone. Cheap being like $200 or so. Maybe more, maybe less. I'm going to keep an eye on Black Friday deals and cyber Monday deals also.

For his smaller hands, I want to keep this at a 4.5" screen at most. And the only other real requirement is that it work on the Cricket wireless network and that it have a micro SD slot.

The Xperia Z3c hits all your requirements, it's even being updated to android 6.0.

But it will likely be too far over your budget.

Can't honestly think of anything in that price range.

Why not get a Windows Phone device? They are cheap and easy to use, and I don't think that your son is going to have problems with the "app gap".

Lumia 635 was going to be my suggestion. Looks like a lot of their phones are free with a number port.

Well, my kid got lucky.

I tried to sell him on the Moto G gen 2 which goes on sale for cyber Monday ($100!!!!). He wants the gen 3 for no other reason than it is newer. Lucky for him:
1) It is still under $200
2) The gen 3 apparently is "water resistant".

There is no way that the gen 3 is going on sale so I might order it for him tonight.
