Small bootup program for remote desktop and wireless

So my drive on my laptop is currently out for repair and I figure I could still use it if I could boot into something small on a flash drive and run remote desktop to my desktop with it.

BartPE seems to be the answer. It comes preloaded with networking support and remote desktop, but I can't seem to figure out how to get wireless working with it. I used this windows zero configuration plug-in, but the instructions seem to be in another language.

Is there something easy like minixp or knoppix, etc...?

Try Puppy Linux, or Linux Mint, both will boot to a Live session on the CD before you install that is fully useable. Puppy is a little hairy configuring wireless in my experience but does work. The Mint 9 live session has found almost every single one of my machines network/wireless cards that ive put it in right off the bat. Worth a shot.

Are these linux programs able to remote desktop to my win7 machine or would I could download an addon, or would I need a whole new remote software altogether?

Wow Ubuntu is awesome. It took me like 3 minutes to get it up and running and it looks like a pretty well featured OS. Wireless and internet worked right away.
I'm gonna try teamviewer later. I hope it's as good as windows rdp.

Thanks again Jack!

Do not forget that you need TeamViewer for Linux, and for the remote desktop for Windows (if it runs Windows).

Right now TeamViewer is the best and easiest RDT solution.

I just found this.
http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-remote-desktop-for-controlling-windows-xp-desktop.html

It looks like I don't need a special client to run RDP and could just directly connect to my windows machine.
I'm not sure how to get to access root though. I found out I could access the console by pressing alt-ctrl F1 and switch back to GUI with alt-ctrl F7.

The console says to use the sudo command. But I'm not sure how to use it. I tried prefacing any of my commands with sudo but it just tells me I need to add parameters to sudo.

Alright I figured it out. I wasn't supposed to put the # or $ signs. I have the rdesktop client installed now but now I just need to figure out how to get it to connect. I put rdesktop [ip] and it says failed to open display

hmmm teamviewer isn't wanting to connect

I did some googling on the failed to open display and it seems like I don't have X for my ubuntu? I have the netbook version. Maybe I should've gotten the desktop one.

I just got some help over at the ubuntu forums. Finally got it up and working.
I used gnome-rdp with rdesktop. The gnome-rdp is a nice GUI for the rdesktop and it actually works. It's a helluva lot slower than windows rdp though :\ Oh well, at least it works.
