If you used a card for two weeks, and then sold it to me, I'd consider it new. You don't. I'm happy for you, but that doesn't change how I feel about it. Now that you understand what I consider "new", there's nothing you need to worry about.

If you bought a car, drove it 100 miles and sold it, would you expect the new price? ;)

No, I wouldn't expect the price I paid for it. To me the car is still new.
Let's be realistic. A destroyed kleenex covered in flem is not the same as hardware that is in perfect condition that was only merely touched and sent back, or a mint car with 100 miles on it. Regurgitate that taco a few more times, and we have a deal Cainam. Mooo.

The thing about refurbs Avalon, is that you have no idea how long they were used before they were returned and repaired or recertified.
It could have died after 9 months of use, been returned for warranty work, BFG found a capacitor that went bad, replaces it and sells as a refurb.
So you've got a card with a year of use, maybe way OCd that year, broken, repaired, and now you say it's "new" because that supports your original argument?

I see.

What exactly are you seeing? Don't act like you know how I think, Rollo.
It was my understanding that the cards were merely returned, without repair required, and in perfect working condition with full lifetime warranty. If my understanding is wrong, then it is merely that, and we're done. That aside, I fail to see what the problem is. I've already noted I didn't know everything a refurb could be, but that doesn't mean my viewpoint of what I consider new or not has changed any. Anything else you find wrong with me?

So, um, about those SM3.0 shots in Far Cry ... I don't personally own the game, so I don't know - does this look significantly better than how it does now? Ie. is there no option for HDR currently in Far Cry?

Also, is there any word of whether or not there will be a HDR (PS 2.0) patch for Far Cry in the future, or Far Cry only look this way on an SM3 equipped card?

HDR can be done on radeon 9700 and higher cards, as well as the FX series graphics cards, from what I gathered in this thread.

Compared to "regular" FarCry, this new stuff sucks. Like other people said, I don't want to have to squint because part of the monitor is overly bright, that said, darkening the screen until it isn't bright would darken everything to the point you can't see anything.

well, new is still new, and used is used.. and you're right that your understanding is incorrect. while in fact a "refurb" may be what you think it is - a perfectly functional card returned on the whim of a customer, it is more often a "repaired" product. the problem is there is really no strict "guideline" as to what a refurb is - other than it was once used, and is available to be sold again - for whatever reason. you could certainly get lucky and get a card that was never damaged/broken/repaired, but at the same time you could get one that was; they both fall under the same "refurbished" monikor. they can certainly be a very good value, but there's a reason places like newegg offer only a 15 day warranty on refurbs :)

Yeah, it would still be nice if one could be one of the lucky ones. You positive you don't want to sell that taco? ;)
