I don't think it's this as much as it is that Netflix exists along with Redbox. I don't know how well Amazon/Apple/Microsoft/Google are doing for video sales...but I think BD's failure is more a function of how awful the format war was. HD DVD was a better format for the end user (no forced previews for example), add in the cost of the polymer research Sony did, cost of production/failure rate in production and so on - BDs still regularly cost more than DVDs did 5-10 years into their life.

And unlike VHS - DVD, there's no compelling reason to dump all your VHSes. Most transfers were not done well.

tl;dr: I think the correct statement is "people never cared too much about bluray"

Apparently, the employees of the defunct company plan to continue development of AnyDVDHD. They have moved the support forum to a new URL and are working on a new website.
