just curious if anyone else is picking up this game tomorrow. i was a fan of the first one and never played the sequel(s) though, back on ps2. i know there is a collection on ps3 as well but i haven't gotten it yet.

there has not been much info released about this game in general though. i'm just going out on a whim hoping it's as good as the old ones i remember.

The videos that I've seen looked good, but I've never played a Sly game before. I did purchase the HD collection, but (unsurprisingly) I haven't played it yet. Make sure to let us know how it is!

I only remember playing a demo for the original Sly Cooper game. Great mechanics, just enough stealth to keep you on your toes.

so yea the game is pretty awesome so far. only played for about 90 minutes last night but it has the charm of the old games. graphics are pretty amazing too and runs at a buttery smooth 60fps. i played in 3d a bit initially but turned it off pretty quickly. it adds quite a bit of input lag. seems that is a big downfall of 3d gaming, at least on ps3.

it has a nice "open world" feel to it, kind of the sense that ratchet and clank does in that the levels aren't fully linear, but you do have linear goals to hit. but there is a lot of exploring and collecting as well, which i enjoy in these types of games.

so all in all, good first impressions.

Sony is full of a bunch of idiots. So many people had no idea that this game came out. I know they are hurting for cash, but they might want to start putting some commercials out for their games.

thing to note too is that this game is only $40, not $60. the guy at gamestop even commented about the price because he had no clue it was only $40.

Yeah, I actually think I will pick it up next week. I just don't understand what the hell Sony is doing at times. They hardly advertise some of their games, and their exclusives should sell a lot more than they do.

I watched someone play against the tiger boss last night, and it looks cool, but probably too easy. I remember that the person playing was having a little trouble staying ahead of the swirling lightning sword thing, and I just said, "Move in closer. The circumference is smaller when you reduce the radius."

Boom! That boss became easy mode after that. :p I was actually kind of hoping that he would gain some crazy abilities that really tested you, but they didn't seem too bad. The orbs that spawn in phase 2 were probably the best addition.

EDIT:

It also doesn't help that the demo was restricted to Playstation Plus members for awhile!

I don't have a problem with demos being avaliable to plus members at first, they are paying extra. I just think that they should run an ad or two. They had a God of War "Superbowl" ad, but it was only on the internet. You have to market your games, and this is one area where Sony falls behind MS. When the new halo or gears comes out, there are commercials everywhere for them, but it isn't the same for Sony exclusives.

i got to the part last night where you first see the tiger guy. then i turned it off for the night. but yea, the game seems like it is not going to be a very challenging game, which is cool with me. it feels just like it will be as difficult as like a ratchet and clank game or so.

ill probably end up getting the sly collection afterwards. i only played part 1 prior.

yeah but lets be honest, sly cooper is no where NEAR a AAA title (budget wise) like god of war or uncharted. sony markets the hell out of those games.

i met 2 of my friends at lunch yesterday and it was next to gamestop, and i told them i wanted to eat there because i was picking up a game. they both assumed i was just getting dead space 3 hah. and they both had no clue what sly cooper was.

I agree that is isn't their biggest game and they do market those two franchises, I just don't understand why they don't do it for other exclusives. Oh well, it's their money, not mine.

oh one thing that i thought was odd is that the game says it has surround sound, but i couldn't get any sounds to come out of my subs when it was set to the surround mode. when in stereo though, the sound was working fine, so i am not sure wtf i'm doing wrong lol.

Doesn't surround just mean at least a 4.0 setup? I'm not sure if it guarantees a subwoofer in the mix. When you had it on stereo, I'm assuming that your receiver was using post-processing to handle it (such as Dolby's PII).

yeah it is dolby pro logic 2. but it also says it has dts surround. thought dts is always at least 5.1?

*** THERE ARE SPOILERS ABOUT THE BOSS BATTLE ON THE TURNING JAPANESE LEVEL BELOW ***

i actually played up to this part and defeated him last night. i thought it was a cool boss. i'd say that the boss battle is very similar to what you would see in a ratchet and clank game or any other adventure game, where there is basically a mini pattern you have to figure out then hit him, then it changes a bit for the next few hits, etc. don't know if i'd call it "too easy" just because it is very similar to a lot of other boss fights in these types of games, but all around it was fun. the whole boss battle took a white because you move different places between the different "patterns".

i was playing for about 2.5 hours last night, so it took about 3.5 hours total for me to finish the first area. not sure how many there are but it seems like this game will be fairly long. and i still have a lot of collectibles to go back and get on the first level if i want to do all that.

sound issue was pebcak. i had the wrong settings on my avr set lol, so we're back in business with surround sound.

2nd level is pretty cool so far. story is cool too and it seems to have quite some variety so far as well.

thought the lighting looked cool here so i snapped a pic on the big screen, although the crappy phone camera doesn't do much justice.

This game is a cross buy title I understand. You buy it for PS3 and get the vita version free. Is it the exact same game on both? If so is it a better portable title or PS3 title?

In other words would I enjoy playing it on the big screen or more as an on the go title on the Vita?

I don't see the point of playing it twice on different platforms if the game has no differences. I can see a game like MLB or PS All Stars because you can continue progress online and whatnot. For a platform/adventure/action style game I don't see this as such a big deal.

So if I buy it is there a reason to even buy the PS3 version? Any benefits at all outside pure graphics?

yea it has the cross purchase thing where you can save in the ps3 version and pick up the same spot on the vita version. same exact game.

as far as i'm concerned, ANY game is better on the big screen than the tiny screen.

One nice thing is Target has an offer to get a $10 gift card on any game that's $39.99 or more. Since Sly is that price, it might make it an even hotter deal for ya!

I would disagree. There are games that lend themselves more to a pickup and play in short bursts on the go than hours long sessions. I think little big planet is one such title. I would also put certain pkatformers in that category like rayman and mario.

I do know what you're saying. Graphics and sound can be much worse on a handheld along with the wider viewpoint and such.

and i woudl still much rather prefer to do that on a console than on a tiny handheld. but this game you could play in spurts, although i think it lends itself more fun doing it in longer sessions.

And that's what I wanted to know. Some games are just flat out better on the go because of the different functionality of the vita and the pickup and play nature of handheld gaming.

So I might be buying this on ps3 and never touching the vita download *shrug*

I'm really tempted too! Although, after playing the demo, I didn't care much for the Murray portion very much. It just felt so slow. Do you have to play as him often?

I should probably also consider cracking open the Sly HD collection at some point so I actually understand what's going on. Albeit, the game does explain most things to you, so playing the prior games doesn't seem to be necessary.
